The last time Pepsi sponsored a halftime show was in 2007, and that left us with a foul taste of the-artist-formerly-known-as-Prince in our mouths. Our expectations are justifiably low; as long as the NFL and CBS have to make public apologies for some unforeseen inappropriateness we will be satisfied.
Last year’s halftime act was watched by 114 million people—2.7 million more than watched the actual football game. The show featured Madonna backed by M.I.A. (and her middle finger), Nicki Minaj, LMFAO and CeeLo. Prior to that was the Black Eyed Peas, and the cyborg-formerly-known-as-Will.i.am.
